Community Health Nursing Department
Overview
The Community Health Nursing Department of the College of Nursing, Nirmala Medical Centre, was established in 2011 with a commitment to excellence in education, research, and community service. The department actively educates and empowers communities by conducting regular health education programs in both rural and urban areas, guiding undergraduate (UG) and offering research consultancy.
The department plays a key role in extension
activities such as nutrition demonstrations, school health programs,
individual and group health education sessions, health camps, and national
health initiatives. Students are actively involved in palliative care
services, ensuring comprehensive community-based healthcare. PG students
are fully engaged in community-oriented research projects, contributing
to evidence-based nursing practice.
With a team of qualified and
dedicated faculty, the department is committed to training students in
Community Health Nursing to promote health, prevent illness, and enhance
the well-being of individuals, families, and communities.
Objectives
General Objectives:
The Community Health Nursing
program aims to:
- Identify the health needs and
challenges of the community.
- Recognize the role of a nurse
in rural and urban healthcare settings.
- Develop skills in planning,
implementing, and evaluating healthcare services for individuals,
families, and communities.
Specific Objectives:
Upon completion of the program,
students will be able to:
- Assess the health needs of
individuals, families, and the community.
- Deliver comprehensive family
healthcare using the nursing process approach.
- Demonstrate effective health
education and counseling techniques for communities and schools.
- Provide family welfare services
and participate in national health programs.
- Gain hands-on experience in various
specialty clinics.
- Understand and contribute to the healthcare
delivery system at the community level.
- Observe and participate in the functions
of primary health centres (PHCs).
- Identify the supervisory roles
and responsibilities of a community health nurse.
- Maintain accurate health records
and reports.
- Collect and analyze vital health
statistics for healthcare planning.
- Conduct community-based research
projects and utilize findings for healthcare improvement.
- Organize and participate in medical
camps and outreach programs.
